Our Story
The Black Voice Project was born from a simple truth — real change doesn’t happen from a distance. It happens on the ground. We’re not just a nonprofit. We’re a movement rooted in the neighborhoods, blocks, and communities where voices have been overlooked and potential has been ignored. From the heart of Washington D.C., we show up — fully, consistently, and unapologetically for the people who are too often pushed to the margins.
fOUNDER'S VISION
As a proud product of D.C. Public Schools, I grew up knowing what it felt like to be a statistic. From an early age, I struggled to understand why some voices carried weight while others were ignored. I witnessed the realities of drugs, alcoholism, and poverty in my community, yet no one could explain why cycles of struggle continued, or why opportunities seemed out of reach for so many of us.
I also questioned why my peers and I didn’t have the same abundance of resources, money, and access as others. Those questions shaped me and they also revealed the truth: mental health and access to exposure are not luxuries, they are lifelines. They are the difference between surviving and thriving, between cycles that repeat and cycles that are broken.
Today, The Black Voice Project is born from those questions and from that truth. We are here to amplify voices that have been silenced, to create spaces for healing, and to make mental health and opportunity accessible for every member of our community. My vision is that no person goes through life wondering why they weren’t heard, why they weren’t seen, or why they didn’t matter. Our work is to ensure they know that they do.
